Pickup at Dehradun airport or Haridwar Junction and check-in. In the evening we take reserved seating at Har Ki Pauri for the Ganga aarti, then walk the Bara Bazaar afterwards.
Where the Ganga leaves the mountains
Haridwar is the first place the Ganga touches the plains, and Har Ki Pauri is the step where it is said Vishnu left a footprint. The evening aarti here is older and more compact than the Varanasi version - the lamps go out onto the water in leaf boats and the whole thing is over in forty minutes.
Twenty-five kilometres upstream, Rishikesh is a different river altogether: fast, cold and green, running between hills, with suspension bridges, ashrams and the rafting put-in points. Together they make a short trip that covers the sacred and the scenic without either one feeling like filler.

The ropeway up to Mansa Devi in the morning, then Chandi Devi across the valley, and Maya Devi in the old town. Afternoon at Daksha Mahadev, and a free evening on the ghats.
A short drive upstream. Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula, the Beatles Ashram at Chaurasi Kutia, and Triveni Ghat for the evening aarti - smaller than Haridwar and, most people find, more moving for it.
A hill drive to Neelkanth Mahadev, where Shiva is said to have swallowed the poison, then back down for checkout and a drop at Dehradun or Haridwar.
This is how the tour usually runs, not a contract. Every itinerary is rewritten around your dates, your pace and your group — tell us what you want to change and we will rebuild it.

It is shorter, closer and more participatory - you are on the steps rather than watching from a boat, and everyone floats a lamp. Many travellers who have seen both prefer this one.
