The Journey

What this tour
is really like

Prayagraj is built around a confluence you have to take partly on faith. The Ganga arrives brown and fast, the Yamuna green and slow, and the Saraswati - so the texts say - joins them from underground. You can see the line where two of them meet from a boat, and it is sharper than any photograph suggests.

The city gives you two very different afternoons. One belongs to the Sangam, the fort and the temples around it. The other belongs to the Nehru family house at Anand Bhawan, where a good part of the independence movement was argued out in the drawing room. Two days covers both without hurrying either.

  • Snan at the Sangam with a family priest
  • Anand Bhawan, room by room
  • Akshayavat inside Akbar's fort
Day By Day

The plan, hour by hour

Pickup and hotel check-in at Civil Lines. In the late afternoon, Bade Hanuman at Sangam - the only reclining Hanuman idol in the country, and one the Ganga floods every monsoon - then Mankameshwar temple on the Yamuna bank at sunset.

Dinner Night in Prayagraj

An early boat to the Triveni Sangam for the ritual dip, with a family priest to guide the sankalp if you want one. Afterwards, the Akshayavat and Patalpuri temple inside Akbar's fort, then the afternoon at Anand Bhawan and the Allahabad Museum.

Breakfast Night in Prayagraj

A morning drive to Shringverpur, where Nishadraj ferried Rama across the Ganga, with its excavated ghat and modern memorial. Back for a late checkout and drop.

Breakfast Departure day

This is how the tour usually runs, not a contract. Every itinerary is rewritten around your dates, your pace and your group — tell us what you want to change and we will rebuild it.

Questions

About this
tour

Anything we have not covered? Message us and a planner in Varanasi will reply, usually within the hour.

Yes. The boat stops at the confluence platform, the larger boats have enclosed changing areas, and the water is waist deep at the marked point. Carry a change of clothes and a towel; our guide handles the rest.

No. The Kumbh and Magh Mela are separate events on a fixed calendar, when the city population multiplies. This tour runs year-round on the ordinary city, which is a far more comfortable way to see it. Ask us for a Mela-specific quote if that is what you want.

About 125 km, or three hours by road on the expressway. Most of our travellers pair the two, and we run a combined package that covers both plus Ayodhya.

Cotton clothes you can change out of quickly. Women usually bathe in a salwar kameez or saree rather than swimwear - this is a ritual dip in a public place, not a swim.
